An Orchid Mealybug, Pseudococcus dendrobiorum Williams (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae)
SIMILAR MEALYBUGS: There are several mealybugs that are reported as occurring on orchids, and in Florida the most commonly encountered mealybugs on orchids are: pineapple mealybug (Dysmicoccus brevipes), longtailed mealybug (Pseudococcus longispinus), Jack Beardsley mealybug (Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi), orchid mealybug (Pseudococcus microcirculus) and the obscure mealybug (Pseudococcus viburn...
متن کاملA new species of Pseudococcus (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) belonging to the “Pseudococcus maritimus” complex from Chile: molecular and morphological description
A new species of mealybug from Chile, Pseudococcus meridionalis Prado sp. n., is described and illustrated based on the morphological and molecular characterization of adult females. This species belongs to the “Pseudococcus maritimus” complex and displays a wide host plant range, including Japanese pear, persimmon, pomegranate, pear and grape.
متن کاملSusceptibility of Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae) to methyl bromide.
Eggs, crawlers, early nymphs, late nymphs, and adults of the pink hibiscus mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green), were tested for their susceptibility to methyl bromide in 2-h laboratory fumigations at ambient conditions (25 degrees C, 95% RH). Dose-response tests indicated that the egg was the most susceptible life stage with an LC99 of 20.2 mg/liter. Based on probit analysis of dose-resp...
متن کاملIdentification of Mealybug- (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae) Resistant Turf-Type Buffalograss Germplasm
Two species of mealybugs, Tridiscus sporoboli (Cockerell) and Trionymus sp., have emerged as potentially serious pests of turf-type buffalograss, Buchloe dactyloides (Nuttall) Engelmann. Sixty-two buffalograss selections were screened for resistance to these mealybugs in 4 greenhouse trials. Using a 1-6 rating scale (1 = no signs of mealybugs, 6 = >75% of tillers infested), 'Prairie' and '609' ...
متن کاملMolecular and Morphological Identification of Mealybug Species (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) in Brazilian Vineyards
Mealybugs (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) are pests constraining the international trade of Brazilian table grapes. They damage grapes by transmitting viruses and toxins, causing defoliation, chlorosis, and vigor losses and favoring the development of sooty mold. Difficulties in mealybug identification remain an obstacle to the adequate management of these pests. In this study, our primary aim was ...
